Traditionally, we’ve collected a list of  healthtech and life-science focused program happening before, during and after Slush (4-5.12) that might be interesting for innovators in health and wellness.

Side events

Healthtech Networking event for startups

Y Science

Place: Messukeskus
Organisers: University of Helsinki, HiLIFE
Participation: Y Science is an official side event of Slush. The access is free but requires reserving your spot to the event. This ticket is only valid for Y Science.

Y Science is bringing forth the value of life science based business. The event will be about scientific discoveries, possibilities for concrete actions and tasty teasers of what you can do with your skills, if you just set your mind to it. You’ll also hear the pitches of Life Science Pitching competition finalists for early phase startups, the winner will be granted 30 000 euros to take their exciting idea further!

The speakers and jury are from these companies and organisations: Xinova, ETH Zurich, University of Bologna, GE Healthcare, Steam Capital, Pact & Partners International, Cambridge Quantum Computing, University of Graz, RebelBio accelerator, Kaskas Media, Creathor Ventures, European Research Council, Tierra Biosciences.

Moving on up – partner with public sector for growth in health

Organisers: Ministry of Social Affairs and Health (STM), the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and Business Finland.

This event is organised to bring startups together with health public sector and corporations and find new ways of working together. It will gather key stakeholders in health and welfare industry, both public (STM, THL, hospital districts, cities, KELA, etc.) and private (J&J, Fujitsu, Orion Pharma, etc.), and all of them will give concrete examples on the kinds of projects they are interested in pursuing with start-ups. More light is also shed on the possibilities of using public data in development projects.

– 11.00–11.30 Possibilities for public sector/startup cooperation: proposals from e.g. SoteDigi and regional social and healthcare directors; pitches on how startups can benefit from genomic data and secondary use of healthcare data.
– 11.30–12.00 Startup pitches in “shark tank” to the event crowd and three amazing judges: Eeva Salminen from Business Finland, Jani Tikkanen from Lähitapiola and Leena Niemistö, Angel Investor.

Cities as a Platform for Developing Frontier Tech

4.12, 12:20-12:50, Evergreen stage

David Wallerstein, cited as ‘The Man Who Bets Tencent’s ‘Moonshot’ Money’ by Wall Street Journal, is the Chief Exploration Officer at Tencent and behind the company’s futuristic investments in flying cars and the future of food. David will join the stage with the Mayor of Helsinki Jan Vapaavuori, and together they will discuss the role cities can take by serving as a testing platform for the most bleeding edge of novel technologies.

Leveraging Compute to Scale: The Discovery and Development of New Medicines

5.12, 14:45-15:00, Founder Stage

Fighting disease and improving human health has come a long way in the 21st century, but maybe not as far as you would think. Recursion Pharmaceuticals is an experimental biotechnology company using automation and AI to create a highly scalable drug discovery platform. Be there to hear the company’s Co-founder & CEO Christopher Gibson tell about the state of current drug discovery and how to leverage technology to improve this process.

Deeptech Showcase

5.12, 15:30 – 16:10, Pink Stage

Deeptech Showcase highlights the most promising startups from the tech scene who are working on the state-of-the-art technology. This isn’t about pitching, but a chance for the 4 interesting companies from different industries to tell about the company and product they are building as well as their grand visions for the future. The featured companies are Lilium, Solar Foods, Nightingale Health, and Celo.

Democratizing Access to Healthcare

5.12, 16:00 – 16:30, Evergreen  Stage

For the next five years, the mobile health market is expected to grow annually more than 40 percent. The stage will be filled with our top-notch health entrepreneurs discussing the idea of democratizing access to healthcare. Partner at Accel Sonali De Rycker, CEO and co-founder of KRY, Johannes Schildt and Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of Ada Health, Claire Novorol will explain how to change the futuristic picture of healthcare a reality.

EU funding for innovators – European Innovation Council

The European Innovation Council supports top-class innovators, entrepreneurs, small companies and scientists with bright ideas and the ambition to scale up internationally. This workshop will share information on currently available funding for innovators through the EIC pilot, and discuss the European Commission’s ideas for the future of innovation funding.

Korea Night 2018 at Slush

Time: 5.12, 19:00 – 21:00

The Korea Night 2018 will provide a wonderful chance to meet Korean representatives from the government and business fields participating in the Slush event. The occasion is a must for all who are interested in business opportunities or cooperation with Korea. It offers a valuable opportunity to talk and socialize with Korean delegation. Buffet dinner and drinks will be served.
