Elderly Care of the 21st Century

Elderly Care of the 21st Century

In the autumn of 2016, the Tikkurila Campus of Laurea University of Applied Sciences is implementing the Supporting Self-care and Coping at Home with Health Technology study unit in collaboration with health technology companies.

The goal of the study unit is to help nursing and public health nursing students familiarise themselves with technological solutions that support the well-being and functionality of the elderly as well as their independent coping at home. The other goal is to assess the suitability of technology for the elderly and as a tool for caretakers, as well as produce assessment information for corporate use.
The study unit will be implemented in two stages. First, there is a technological familiarisation session with the companies (Tuesday 22 November, 8 am to 4 pm), and then a workshop (Friday 1 December, 12 to 16 pm), where students will hold product presentations for the invited seniors and then a product evaluation together with the elderly participants.

The Supporting Self-care and Coping at Home with Health Technology study unit was arranged for the first time last spring, the bulletin of which can be seen here (in Finnish):

We are now seeking cooperation partners for the implementation of the study unit for this autumn. If your company would like to participate in the study unit, please contact Senior Lecturer Kirsi Ronkainen either by email ( or by phone (+358 40 482 4327).
