Development and innovation activities benefit from the secondary use of health and social data act

The new act of secondary use of health and social data enables more possibilities for developing new innovative solutions in health and wellbeing services.

The act states that it is now possible to use customer and register data created in health services to other uses than originally intended. The secondary uses included in the act are development and innovation activities, scientific research, statistics, teaching and knowledge management, among other things.

A new data permit authority will be established to make sure that the data is used ethically. Data permits for health and social data will be authorized centrally by the data permit authority, especially if there is a need to collect data from different registers. A centralised data permit system will be built to make the process smooth and secure.

For companies that are interested in using health and social data in innovation and development activities, it becomes easier to get access to relevant and comprehensive data to create new solutions.
